A highly regarded German saloon and sports car driver who started the 1977 German Grand Prix at Hockenheim illegally from the pit lane, having failed to qualify his ATS team Penske PC4. He was subsequently black flagged off the circuit. Heyer later enjoyed a successful career in touring car racing, including three wins in the Spa 24 Hours and victory in 1984 at the Sebring 12 Hour sports car race.
