Involved in motor racing since he was a teenage instructor at the famous "skid school" operated at his local circuit by Dutch racer Rob Slotemaker, pint-sized Lammers won the 1973 Dutch Touring Car Championship in his first year of competition. By 1978 he had added the European Formula 3 title to his list of successes and moved into Formula 1 in 1979 alongside Elio de Angelis in the Shadow squad. Thereafter intermittent outings with the ATS, Ensign and Theodore team yielded not a single point and he made a return in 1992 - after an absence of ten years - to drive two races for March with correspondingly little success. During the intervening years he found great success with the TWR Jaguar squad, sharing the Le Mans-winning car with Andy Wallace and Johnny Dumfries in 1988, and later contested the 1994 British Touring Car Championship in the TWR Volvo estate. Lammers continues to race in sports cars.
